In the summer, my grandmother would always have hollyhocks growing around the concrete slab where the burning barrel was. I never saw her plant them, they just always seemed to be there when the warmth of the season set in. They’re nostalgic for me. They create a warm feeling. They remind me of a time when things were simpler, slower and quieter. When beauty was a natural part of daily life.
